“Leader! Leader! Come to the factory quickly! There has been a problem. People from the Income Tax Office are here. They are asking for factory name and taking pictures!” – a factory owner became agitated during MiB census. What happened actually?

During the census, a factory owner asked for the official authorization letter indicating that the Field Officer has come through a proper channel. The Field Officer handed over the letter issued by BGMEA/DIFE written in English, then the factory owner became angry and made a phone call saying the above.

Even though the Field Officer tried to convince the factory owner that he was not from the Income Tax Office, he had to wait for the “Leader” to arrive. The Leader was actually a local politician, well-connected to the factory management, reassured the factory owner that there was nothing to fear, as Google regularly sent people to collect information for developing their maps.

The Leader then showed the owner Google Maps and explained that MiB is also following a similar information collection approach. Then the factory owner became calm and said that they are very interested to add their factory information on a digital map like Google Maps because of its vast utility.
